The Self-Care Journal: Taking Time for Yourself
Life is busy. As a wife, a mum of two young crazy kids, and owner of two businesses, I know firsthand how easy it is to put yourself last. Between work, family, my incredible clients and everything in between, self-care often feels like an afterthought. And if I’m being honest, I don’t always practise what I preach. But here’s the thing: how we feel reflects how we look, and that affects our overall mood—and ultimately, how we show up in the world.
What Does Self-Care Really Mean?
Self-care isn’t about extravagant spa days or luxury retreats (though we won’t say no to those!). It’s about taking small, intentional moments each day to prioritise yourself. It’s about recognising that you deserve the same care and attention you give to everyone else.
How to Incorporate Self-Care Into Your Busy Life
The idea of setting aside time for yourself can feel overwhelming, but self-care doesn’t have to be complicated. Start with just 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes at night—a simple ritual that helps reset your mind and body. This could look like:
- Brushing your teeth mindfully instead of rushing through it.
- Taking a shower and truly enjoying the sensation of the water.
- Applying your skincare with care rather than as an afterthought.
- Drinking a cup of herbal tea and allowing yourself to pause.
- Journaling or simply reflecting on your day.
These small moments create space for you to reconnect with yourself, reduce stress, and start and end your day with intention.
Why Self-Care Matters
When we neglect self-care, it shows—not just in our skin but in our energy, mood, and the way we interact with others. Taking time for yourself isn’t selfish; it’s necessary. When you feel good, you radiate confidence. And that confidence is what people notice.
So, here’s your challenge: find 15 minutes, twice a day, just for you. Not for work, not for your family—for you. Because the better you care for yourself, the better you can show up for the people and things that matter most.
Let’s make self-care a priority—together.
